Trump Targets Rural Wisconsin Voters in Key Battleground State Rally
In a strategic move aimed at bolstering his support base, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is set to rally in Mosinee, Wisconsin, a town of around 4,500 people located in the heart of the state's rural and working-class region.
The rally, scheduled for 1 p.m. local time (1800 GMT), underscores Trump’s continued focus on white, small-town voters as he navigates a challenging electoral landscape.
Wisconsin, a crucial battleground state, has seen shifting political dynamics over recent years. Marathon County, where Mosinee is situated, was once a Democratic stronghold, favoring Barack Obama in 2008. However, the county has since shifted right, showing strong support for Trump in the 2016 and 2020 elections, each time by approximately 18 points.
As Trump faces a competitive race against Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, who recently replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee, he is working to solidify his standing among his traditional voter base.
Despite Harris’s growing lead among Hispanic and Black voters—13 and 7 points ahead of Trump, respectively—Trump’s support among white voters, particularly those without a college degree, remains relatively robust. According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, Trump continues to lead by 25 points among this group, though this is a slight decrease from his 29-point lead against Biden.
Trump’s focus on rural, predominantly white areas like Mosinee reflects his campaign strategy to consolidate and energize this crucial demographic. The Rust Belt states, including Wisconsin, have historically been key to Trump’s electoral success, and he is banking on maintaining strong support in these regions to counterbalance his challenges in other voter groups.
As the election nears, Trump’s running mate, Ohio Senator JD Vance, is also expected to campaign heavily in rural Rust Belt areas, emphasizing the campaign’s commitment to securing these vital votes.
With the electoral stakes high, Trump’s rally in Mosinee is more than just a campaign event; it’s a strategic push to reinforce his foothold in a pivotal battleground state as the November election approaches.
